Ooma Telo Free vs OBi200 what one to get?

$

Currently i have ABB, with the voip. at the time it seemed like a better option than verizon due to the almost $60-80 price drop. While looking at neweggs next deals i seen the obi200 or 202. What i'm looking for is a simple solution to voip but cutting the cost to almost free, hopefully with US and Canada calling free (canada isn't a necessity). of these two options, what one is better? The one thing i do like is that the ooma has an app i could call from no matter where i am via app+wifi.

[Future9] How to change outgoing Caller ID displayed using Calling Card?

Good day. I made a test call using F9's Calling Card feature. The call completed successfully, however, the displayed outgoing CID was the one for the phone I used to dial the access No., rather than the one Nitzan hard-coded for my account. Is there a way to display the hard-coded CID when making calls with the Calling Card feature? With my CallCentric account, all I had to do was to use the verified CID of my choice as the CID for my main extension (extension 100). Thank you.

Is toll free value routing still available with voip.ms? It seems only premium is now available on my account? When did voip.ms make this change? Thanks.

Good (cheap) Call routing/voicemail for beginning real estate use

My wife and I are starting out in real estate. The nature of the business is that we will likely be "poor" for the first six months. We are looking for a reliable call routing system (virtual/online) [e.g. press "1" for me, "2" for my wife] which can forward calls to our cells and take voicemails (and do other things that good call routing systems do. Since we will have little to no income the first six months, we are looking to do this as cost effectively as possible. We were going to try Google Voice (since it's free), but it seems that reliability and feature limitations don't make it a good choice for this type of business (correct?). Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

HELP Spout Communications fly-by-night

Hello, I've been using Spout for few a months and ported 3 numbers to them on Oct. 3. There were some tech issues at the start but eventually it was running smoothly until last week. On Nov 26 my service went down on all 3 lines and has not been fixable since. Normally their tech support responds same day. I'm now on Day 6 without a response. Tomorrow is the last day of my bill cycle and I don't know what to do. I'd like to find another voip provider asap that can provide calling+sms like spout did. Are there any other Spout customers having this problem? What happened to them??

[General] Google Voice issue on Obi202: incoming audio randomly stops

I have an odd problem which I've been unable to solve. I have Google Voice running on my OBi202 and pretty regularly (once every few calls, calls varying in duration) the call remains connected from what I can tell but I lose any incoming audio. Believe other parties can hear me, but I can't hear them. Does anyone have any similar experience and were you able to solve this? I'm not sure if it's a Google Voice issue (my suspicion) or an OBi issue ... Attached is a call status log for a call I'm on right now, the audio drop happened and I redialed into the conference bridge but no issues on this call so far. I'll try to capture the call status log thru obitalk on a call that drops the audio.

Best way to port mobile number to VoIP with SMS?

I want to port my existing mobile phone number to a VoIP provider but also need reliable sms support: I currently use VoIP.ms for most of my numbers but I find its sms support to be really hit or miss - sometimes texts don't seem to be received at all or there's a long delivery delay. Any suggestions for another provider (or providers, if there's a way to split the voice and text parts to separate companies)? Fyi this is a Canadian #.

Anyone know how to get the BLFs to work properly on the Panasonic KX-HDV230 and FreePBX? I just got one, and I'm able to use the BLF buttons to dial to other extensions, but they never show the in use status of those extensions.

advice for new voip system

hope this is the right forum for what im looking for...if not if anyone has a rec on some other forums that might be able to help me. thx kind of a newbie to the world of voip and doing my best to learn as much as possible. i have a current voip system with my own pbx and at&t circuit. not sure what i have but i know they are ripping me off and want to leave them. my business model is an answering service for clients that forward their calls to me when they leave for the day. i have 100 phone numbers with one assigned to each client so that when they forward to their assigned number i know how to answer the calls that come in. most of the time its just one to two calls at a time coming in with lots of spare time in between calls. im looking for advice on which way i should go with a new system. i currently have 2 phones setup to receive calls and of course im limited to being at the one particular office with the pbx. what i think i want is a system that would allow me to setup a phone at each of my 3 locations which are several hours apart. when calls come in i want all 3 to ring as if they are in the same office. that way i dont have to keep someone at my main location 24/7 to catch calls. i can utilize employees at the other 2 locations can catch the calls as well i was quoted a virtual pbx from 8x8 with transferring my numbers from at&t. they said they set up the account and i just plug each of the phones into my routers at each location for internet access and boom they all work. is 8x8 considered a good voip company? is this my best method to pull off what im trying to do? im looking for good call quality and reliability while being cost conscience on my monthly charges. btw all 3 locations have good low ping high speed cable internet connections. if its really cost effective i would consider putting in a voip in a box system at one of the locations if it could feed the other 2 but not sure how that works and what kind of cost and recurring monthly cost im looking at. (i am a network/computer engineer by trade just never used or learned voip systems till now)

[Equipment] Repurpose Fonality Polycom IP331

Bought this phone off eBay cheap. I want to use with Callcentric. I was able to unlock the Fonality stuff and get in with the normal Polycom 456 Admin password and get things setup. I used an ftp server and hacked together some basic cfg files for the phone to download, then did the rest of the setup in the web utility. Phone works - makes calls and receives calls. But... I have one major issue: incoming calls don't ring. The call comes in and can be answered but no ringtone. AND, if I press the volume keys on the phone to change the ringer volume or use the menu to select a ringer tone, the phone locks up for a moment then reboots itself. So something is wrong with the ringtone setup. I've tried several cfg file things to get ringtones into the phone. I don't want anything custom - just default standard ringer would be fine. Any tips on how to repurpose one of these phones would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Other] Faxing with an ATA - Providers

Alright, so I've recently acquired an all-in-one printer, so looking at fax services to use with an ATA.. Testing with my OBi202 right now.. May try and find a SPA112 or open my other OBi202 to dedicate a 2-line ATA to this machine (The MFP has two fax lines :) ) So far, I've tested CallCentric, worked on the 'poor' settings, 9600 no ECM, usually 3 pages would go though, sometimes 4, but not more than that, incoming or outgoing.. Trying T38Fax.com - This service works great.. Just sent out an ulta-fine quality fax, 30 pages, and received a 29 page fax sent from voip.ms fax portal. No issues. 14,000 baud with ECM On :D One thing I've noticed about all online fax portals.. They only send faxes with the lowest quality.. Ones I've used anyways.. So two questions... 1) Are there any other VoIP fax providers that will work properly with an ATA? Looking for a cheaper monthly rate.. Even if I have to pay a higher per-minute rate to get it. So far web searching only leads me to 'try 9600 ECM off and it may work with our service', 'virtual fax portals', or the 'HTTPS Fax ATA' 2) Has anybody else seen a fax portal with different quality settings?

[General] OnSip, experiences, opinions, and 1 question

Doing a 1 month trial of OnSip. Any experiences to share, comparisons, caveats, etc.? Seems to do what it needs to do for a reasonable cost. Actually 2 questions. 1=I'm told if phone gets rebooted, all contacts programmed are lost if the phone was provisioned via push server, vs. if you manually configure/provision the phone, if rebooted, all contacts are preserved. A little disturbing, as it could be a deal breaker if an end user programs a few dozen contacts and has to re-enter them after a phone reboot! Is this "normal" with VOIP systems, or is it specific/peculiar to OnSip? 2=Polycom vs. ??: customer does not like small screen of VVX500, liked bigger screen of Yaelink T48G. However, I tried T48G and audio seemed muffled, research showed that no fix was ever offered, and resolve was "plug the handset cable into the headset port" to solve the problem. Uggh! What's the best, reasonably priced, IP Gigabit phone to have these days?

[Other] ooma can't port number

$

Hello, So I've heard lots of good things about ooma and decided to get it. I was just hooking it up and doing some research online and on ooma website they have a service to check if your number is portable. And it turned out that mine is not. It never even crossed my mind that my number may not be portable prior to getting the system. This is definitely a deal breaker for me as I don't want to lose my 20 year old number. So just wondering if there's a work around for this issue or if I should just return it and stick with my landline provider? I live in Canada if that matters. Thanks.

[General] SIP URI Forwarding

Hi all! I have a question regarding DID carriers and SIP trunking. I currently have a bunch of DIDs with a local Canadian wholesale carrier. This particular carrier isn't so great with T.38/ECM faxing so I would like to have inbound calls run over a different SIP trunk which deals better with fax. My question is as follows: Technically speaking, if the carrier supports it, is it possible to use URI forwarding from provider A to provider B to allow inbound calls to a DID to be received over a different carrier's SIP trunk. My goal is to avoid having to LNP numbers all over the place if possible. I would like to keep all my DIDs with carrier A and receive inbound calls for some of those numbers with carrier B. Is this possible with SIP URI forwarding? I've been learning tons about SIP in the last few months but still have some way to go, so forgive me if this is an obvious question to most!

recommended cheapest ATA (SIP and nonSIP) hardware?

$

Since i'm still in the process of learning... I'm trying to learn what is the least expensive available Analog Telephone Adapter hardware out there for VOIP use. I'm also trying to understand what nonSIP standards exist out there. (apparently Google Voice and Skype are two of them/not compatible with anything, without some kind of gateway anyways... at least for GV) I'm aware I can use softphones on computers and wifi softphones on android handsets/tablets as well but i'm specifically wanting to use normal office desk phones and cordless units instead because wifi gives me bad headaches and I don't always want to have a computer on. I'm aware of the Grandstream HT701 for SIP use (and the hacked Basic Talk if I can get it working but mines probably a brick) I'm aware of the OBiTalk models (but dont know the differences between different models, and heard something about a 'backdoor' that concerned me) which can work directly with Google Voice and apparently other SIP clients? (what about skype, does anything plug LAN to phone for that?) I am curious what else is out there especially at the cheaper end of the spectrum since i'd like to set up like a dozen to twenty max physical seats or so on a total shoestring. (already have the phones just need the ATA's) Super low budget because it's going to be so rarely used (its more of a preparation for a near future use that may not even occur) and I dont have much $ to put into it on a college student budget so a cost of $5 instead of $50 matters when it multiplies by up to x20. :P
