VOIP.ms Alternative (Canadian Preferred) ?

So I have been with voip.ms for many years, as long as I can remember, but I think it is time to move on. I changed my email address probably 6 months ago, nothing unusual. Anyway, I have just spent the last 3 days or more with their tech support trying to reset my password with no success. Every time I try change my password it rejects the code they sent me, saying the code does not match the email address. I suspect my old email is in the system somewhere and there is a bug in their system somewhere which they not willing to acknowledge, so much easier blaming the client. The solution they proposed now is to manually set my password putting the blame on me for unsuccessfully using the broken system that they claim is working. They now require me to send a photo ID from my email account proving who I am for security reasons. it was bad enough I had to do this when signing up, but seriously to get my password to work ? This still won't fix the root problem and wreaks of incompetence on their end. Unfortunately, the support team seems incompetent or not skilled enough to fix an obvious problem with their system but has turned to blaming me. I have loads of gmail acounts, 2 factor accounts across a slew of systems but never run into a system like this that thinks they need to be securer than fort knox. I am hoping to keep it Canadian, but there aren't many Canadian worthy providers (I might be wrong), is there someone worthy to look at ? I have used CallCentric and didn't mind their system and somewhat recall it been easy to use. I don't think I want to use Avneo due to lack of any support, I heard there is paid support. Looking for a simple easy but reliable system where I won't lose my phone number due to incompetence or the site shutting down. Don't need fancy features other than blocking spammer calls. Thank you

[Voip.ms] Need to reboot OBi after power outage - why is that?

$

I have an OBi100 with FreePhoneLine, and whenever there is a power outage, my device automatically registers again once the outage is over. However, my parents also have an OBi100, but with voip.ms, and whenever they recover power after an outage, they have to reboot the OBi to get their line back, even though the lights on the device are all green. Does this have anything to do with their service provider, or with their router? Is there anything I can do to make the device register back automatically?

Everybody knows that speaking on a copper wire phone during a lightning storm can be hazardous to health. Does the same rule apply to speaking on a voip phone during a lightning storm?

[Equipment] Android phone vs. dedicated wireless headset

Dedicated wireless phone headsets are priced in the range of $100, why not use $50 android phone and bluetooth with a SIP client on Wifi? The phone is additional hardware to carry around but here are the benefits that I see. 1.Attach to cheap headset 2. Increase the range. 3. With some cheap cellular service, it can also act as a fail-over line. Any thoughts? Any SIP client that you would recommend that will do call waiting/hold/transfer (Standard SIP desk phone features)?

[Equipment] Current OBi firmware...

Given the June 2018 Polycom/Obihai/GV transition and their poor documentation, maybe it would be helpful to track current OBi firmware and availability here... Best I can tell, the current OBi 200 Series firmware is 3.2.2 (Build: 5859EX) and is only available to devices added to the OBiTALK portal. OE

said by uid://1963371 :(wont flash from stock 5853+ due to x509 signature check in stock upgrade. you were warned...) Before I go off on yet another tirade about how evil Obihai is, I want to first ask - has anyone else disabled all four Methods under System Management > Auto Provisioning and yet discovered that some way, somehow they still have been upgraded to Software Version 3.2.2 (Build: 5859EX)? I could have sworn that when I set all those methods to "Disabled" the firmware was at a lower version, yet here it is at 5859EX, and I am 99% certain I have NOT applied any firmware upgrades since back in April. It's not like I could hate Obihai any more than I already did, but if they are now pushing new firmware without users' permission (without the user going to the web portal and upgrading there, or initiating an upgrade by dialing ***6), that's virus-like behavior in my book. My question is, how long ago was 5859EX released, and has anyone else found that they've got this firmware build even after taking steps to avoid it? I am assuming that 5859EX has the signature check, since it is newer than the "bad" 5853 version, correct?

Reliable provider for business account

Hello, I'm looking at switching my small business over from POTS to VOIP and am just learning about VOIP really. We have 3 1-800 numbers and around 10 phones. We don't really need a complicated PBX so I'm hoping to just use a simple IVR menu that is hosted with whatever provider we choose, rather than needing hardware on site for that. Is there a guide somewhere or just a general thought of which providers are considered some of the most reliable? I don't want to penny pinch on something if it is going to be flaky -- I want something that can be reliable for business purposes. Thanks.

How to spoof caller ID from a VOIP device, using Flowroute

$

Flowroute is one VOIP provider that allows the subscriber to set any number as the outbound caller ID by entering the caller ID into the VOIP device itself. This allows almost instant use of the custom caller ID. (There are probably other such providers. At VOIP.MS, the caller ID can be set to anything but that setting must be made in the VOIP.MS web portal, under the sub-account in question.) When setting this up on a device, it's not obvious which info goes where because each manufacturer has its own lingo. So here's my attempt to get this down for three major manufacturers. In the US, caller ID spoofing isn't illegal, as long as you're not trying to defraud someone or obtain something of value. Feel free to add to this list or to enhance it in any way. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Flowroute VOIP device settings for spoofing caller ID: (1) Flowroute’s “SIP Registrar / Proxy”: sip.flowroute.com ...which should be entered as follows: • Yealink: “SIP Server1” and “Outbound Proxy1” • Grandstream: “SIP Server” • Obihai: “ProxyServer” under SERVICE PROVIDERS / ITSP PROFILE X / SIP (2) Flowroute’s “Username & Auth Username”: XXXXXXXX ...which should be entered as follows: • Yealink: “Register Name” • Grandstream: “SIP Authentication ID” • Obihai: “AuthUserName” under VOICE SERVICES / SPX SERVICE / SIP CREDENTIALS (3) Flowroute’s “Password”: YYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ...which should be entered as follows: • Yealink: “Password” • Grandstream: “Authenticate Password” • Obihai: “AuthPassword” under VOICE SERVICES / SPX SERVICE / SIP CREDENTIALS (4) Your custom caller ID: ZZZZZZZZZZ ...which should be entered as follows: • Yealink: “User Name” • Grandstream: “SIP User ID” • Obihai: “URI” under VOICE SERVICES / SPX SERVICE / SIP CREDENTIALS

I successfully made 3 simultaneous calls (1 inbound and 2 outbound) on a single OBi200 GV trunk. The old XMPP GV only supported 2 channels. I did not try more than 3 calls. Don't forget to increase MaxSessions.

[Voip.ms] Inverse CallerID filtering possible?

I'd like to block (route to busy or system message) all numbers but one or two (for a period of time). Is it possible? It's possible to use wildcards but I don't see how it could help in this case. I'd like to do it only for some time because somebody started using my DID as originating number and I started to get calls from unknown people claiming I called them. I hope it will subside and I will unblock all numbers. For now I want to be able to receive calls from only a couple of people I know.

Anyone Else Unable to post to OBiTalk Forum

Is anyone else having problems posting to the OBiTalk forum? I've been unable to do so for the past two days. Every attempt results in the error: "The following error or errors occurred while posting this message: The message body was left empty." with a red border around the message input area as if I'm trying to post a blank message. Except I'm not. I've tried different browsers, removing all cookies to no avail. Any suggestions?

[Equipment] Best solution for one VOIP telephone

Hey everyone, I wanted to get a dedicated number for phone interviews and other important calls even though my cell phone probably could suffice it just makes things staticiky and will drop out even when I'm on Wi-Fi calling. I was looking to see what people are using for VoIP? From what I gather perusing the forums is MagicJack, Vonage, and Obi are popular options. I'm looking to pair service with this phone: http://a.co/eETykxL It looks like magicjack is maybe the better option since I'm not taking international calls all local or within the continuous 48.

Google Voice Gateway beta test for SIP interop

$

This beta test is for existing Google Voice Gateway users. I'm asking here in order to limit the test to the more technical crowd at first. If you haven't read the other thread (https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31938501-Google-Voice-XMPP-support-will-go-away-in-June) GVGW's interop with Google Voice will be going away in June. Google's new SIP interop has been discussed here, on Obihai forums, and on the GV product forums, though not in precise technical detail. The test will help us find any bugs and limitations. Participating in the beta is a one-way trip! You can't go back to the XMPP (Google Chat) after this. It won't matter after June 18 anyway, but if you want to hang on to your XMPP connection until then, don't join the beta. MORE WORDS OF CAUTION: As has always been the case, GVGW is not officially supported by Google. If they don't want us to connect, we're done. If they don't like our beta test, the testers will probably be done sooner than June 18. OK, you have been sufficiently warned. Changes in the beta: these features are different from existing GVGW other than the back-end protocol change Media passthrough: Codecs are negotiated directly with GV; no transcoding done on the gateway. My tests show G.711u and Opus are accepted. Codec mismatches or offers including video get a SIP 488 or other "forbidden" response. Voicemail: you must have a PIN set to access your own voicemail box over the phone, and dialing your own number fails. Use our shortcut "1186" to reach voicemail. Early media (https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31962999-) now getting passed back through GV, as are busy signals To join: Unregister your device or devices if you've got multple connected to the same GVGW account. Then go to https://simonics.com/gw and log in and verify that it shows your account is "Offline." If you don't see "Offline" then click the button to go offline and refresh the page until you do. If you have a SIP URI configured on this page, contact me; it's more complicated. Change your device to register to gvgwbeta.simonics.com and connect. From this point on don't go back to the gvgw.simonics.com domain because it won't work for you. The servers set up for beta are temporary; don't plan to use them after the beta ends if we move this to production. Leave any feedback here, or in a private message. Thanks and good luck. :-)

[General] OBi 110 - still semi-viable?

$

So, just to be sure. After June 18, an OBi 110 will still have all its functions EXCEPT Google Voice? Since it has the PSTN port, it would still be more useful than buying an OBiLine adapter for the 200... would it not? They will still work with OBiTalk portal, just not GV? I already have an OBi 200 series for a couple of years... been great. I'm thinking that an OBi 110 would still be useful if I got one real cheap. For example... put one at my brother's place across town, he could call me as an extension, still use his POTS line otherwise. I'm thinking, despite serious panic, it's still gonna be somewhat a useful device!
