I have a Google Voice account and I have done the steps outlined here to configure my AT&T cell phone to transfer Busy, Unanswered and Unreachable calls to my GV number so that GV will act as my voice mail system. I can see these forward settings in my Android phone. But apparently this is not just a case of configuring my phone (or AT&T's system) to forward calls to my GV number. Apparently GV knows this is setup and sends these forwarded calls straight to voice mail.
My question is how GV knows the forwarded call is from my cell phone? When a call is forwarded doesn't the Caller ID info that gets sent to GV contain the originating caller's info, not my cell phone? Maybe both my cell info and the original caller's info is sent?
Just curious how they make this work. Must be more going on here than I know about.
