Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and have the problem above.
This is my set up:
NB - I've elected to not use the Obitalk web portal to manage my Obi100
Virgin Broadband Cable > VMDG480 Superhub (in modem mode) > Netgear WNR2000v1 > Obi100 > RJP/BTS (in-line ring cap) > Standard BT corded handset
The problem:
I've been running an Obi100 for over a year using Sipgate Basic and had no problems making and receiving calls.
I decided to swap in a Netgear WNR2000 as its features are better than the Superhub and everything was fine for a couple of months until I had a Virgin Broadband outage a week ago. I inevitably power cycled all my kit when Virgin was back up.
Since the outage, calls I've made through the Obi100 drop after exactly 30 seconds. I updated the firmware on the OBi100 to the most recent and tried a few different WNR2000 settings but to no avail. The WNR2000 firmware is now current:
Firmware Version V1.2.3.7
GUI Language Version V1.1.5.12
I eventually tested by coming out of the VMDG480 straight into the Obi100 and everything is (i.e. no calls were being dropped). So, the issue seems to be with the WNR2000. After doing some research on the WNR2000 I have provisionally come to the conclusion that the firmware currently installed on it has SIP ALG running but it doesn't have a DISABLE SIP ALG option (bizrrely, the early firmware does). My understanding is that disabling SIP ALG will fix the issue.
I was just wondering what my best course of action might be. If anyone might have been here before and can help, I'd be a happy man. I'm not keen on having to buy a replacement for the WNR2000 however, I see my options as doing one of the following:
1) Try and go back to an earlier WNR2000 firmware version v1.1.3.9 (which has the SIP ALG option) if possible and update the firmware incrementally till I get the same issue, then settle for the version before (I know, not ideal).
2) Find some alternative firmware, although DD-WRT is only compatible with WNR2000v2 and none of the other 3rd party providers I know of are compatible with this hardware.
3) Buy another router preferably 801.11ac that's good at VOIP, with QoS, DHCP address reservation and includes a proper VPN client if possible. Any Suggestions for a cheap/good value for money one?
Any comments would be really helpful, thanks.
