[Voip.ms] MMS "coming" for Onvoy / Vitelity / VOIP.MS

$

Recently, Vitelity told me they've decided to deploy MMS as an option on their DIDs. They couldn't give me a time frame; I'd guess 2 to 6 months. Their current SMS service is inadequate in many ways, and I expect MMS to be adequate at least. Vitelity is owned by Onvoy. VOIP.MS uses those 2 companies heavily, so when MMS becomes available at Vitelity, I expect to see it at VOIP.MS, too, at least on VOIP.MS's Onvoy DIDs.

[CircleNet] Anyone still using CircleNet for outgoing calls?

I know they are shutting down their retail business but I like the prices and call quality. :) Problem is, I haven't been able to make any calls since at least last Monday. Anyone able to successfully make calls? I logged a ticket but haven't received a reply - not that I expected one. I was hoping to use up the last of my money with them in the hopes of avoiding getting a refund... I may have to rethink this.

[Unlock] New Grandstream ATA used by Vonage

Looks like Vonage uses a new Grandstream ATA for their service, model HT802. It's Grandstream newest generation of ATAs, with 2 ports. Currently available at Walmart and BestBuy for $10. If unlockable, this could be a nice, inexpensive 2 port ATA. Interesting that they are using a MicroUSB port for power. I don't have a way of getting any of these soon to test as I am located in Canada. However, I am sure there are similarities between unlocking those and the BasicTalk HT701 (though probably they will not accept Mackey's firmware without some modifications).

Koodo Wireless Home Phone $20/month - anyone else trying this?

Even though I cannot receive a call on my cell phone (Samsung Note 4) where I live, the WF721 gives me 2 bars and is more than enough to make a high quality call. Both the WF721 & my cell phone use the Bell Mobility network of towers. Btw, as a promotion, the cost is $5 per month for the first year.

Happy Holidays 2016

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The Obi's were hung by the chimney with care In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While Elastix dirges danced in their heads; And mama with her Ooma, and I with a PAP, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap; When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and Future Nine tiny reindeer, With a big jolly driver, full of vigor and vim, I knew in a moment it must surely be him. He was full of Magic, his eyes they did gleam, No Localphone was this, he came on VoxBeam. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! Now, AcroVoice and Voipo! On, CallCentric! On Anveo! On, Voip.MS and Skoypo! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all"! As I covered my mouth to not make a sound Down the chimney he came with a bound. Ten Panasonics he had flung all round his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. He said, good children get toys all shiny and new, But the others get hot coal and a hot Samsung too. His eyes -- how they twinkled! His face full of verve! He said, "Come, drink a toast to good power reserve! Then he sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a shout, "Remember to switch if a server goes out!" Then I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Calls get dropped on VOIP.MS

Could anyone look at my config and point out any mistakes I may have made? I use a Grandstream ht702. It used to work flawlessly with voip.ms. Sometime ago it started dropping calls (I can't remember if I had changed any settings). I have recently moved to a new area and a new ISP, but calls still get dropped (although that's not why I moved). I tried upgrading the firmware on both the ATA and the router, calls still get dropped. QoS on/off does not make a difference, calls still get dropped. Must be operator error config: http://imgur.com/a/MTuBx

ISO VOIP, questions

Two poor guys trying to start off a sideline with zero budget but a novel idea. And I mean zero budget, barely making the bills. Can it be done, who knows, but we're gonna try, we've both been through hard knocks and we're kind souls and not averse to hard work or doing right by others. So with that budget I'm thinking until we really see if it'll work, until we actually make some money, we still need certain things, essential things. Like phone numbers. We won't be getting many calls, at least not to start, and we won't be around for a lot of the calls. We are no close to any profit, either, I'm not employed and pouring what I have into this and so is my partner. So I remembered that I liked VOIP, I had my troubles with it, such as the complex settings involved, it breaking from time to time, certain services not working (like incoming calls failing, failed answering service, noise on the line...) But all in all, I have long felt that VOIP is the precursor to something greater and that those that are part of the vanguard (Yeah, it's been around, but it's still in it's still just a toddler) are helping some thing greater come to be. I need to get some spare time (and I am VERY busy with all other aspects of what we are trying to do, AND job hunting at the same time, AND doing some charitable work) so I can come up to speed on the current services and technology. I would like to have permission to ask for some help to get us started, is it ok? We aren't going into the VOIP business nor are we advertising what we're gonna endeavor to do with our enterprise here either, so with that made clear, here come the questions: 1 I recall that Google had a VOIP like phone number service. I recall that it could function as a number that would then ring other phone numbers simultaneously so calls would not be missed. Does that still exist and in what iteration? Does it exist with some other service? 2 A little like #1, we're going to be running from two spots for now, I have two Linksys VOIP boxes, the old ones, 2 line models. I want to put one in each location (other parts of town so to speak) and would like that whoever answers the call first, provided it rings to both boxes simultaneously, takes the call. 3 And there's the rub, can two voip boxes work on the same phone number this way? OR... IS there a better approach towards the obvious goal? 4 Could such a service reach cell phone and even better include voip apps on our cells? 5 Are services restricted as far as business. While we really aren't a business yet, more of an unhatched egg that needs to try things first, would we be ok at least until real calls and a LITTLE profit is made? 6 Are there services that will remotely take calls after a number of rings and greet the caller with a message and let caller record one? Is this a feature that adds to the price? 7 Will our older voip boxes work? 8 I seem to recall that a looming shortage of IPs was soon to force IPV6 into play and that it would obsolete some hardware. Has that happened yet, and if so, to what extent? 9 How much will this cost us, we aren't making money, might not manage to for quite a while and we have no angels to help us? Thank you for your support and effort to reach out to us and help us become better informed. And, just one more question, what minimum bandwidth upstream do we need for a reliable service?

Port in rejected by voip.ms but accepted by Twilio?

Earlier in the week I submitted a port in request to voip.ms for a Straight Talk Wireless number. The port was rejected, stating the account number on the CSR did not match what I had submitted... So I talked to two representatives from Straight Talk, who insisted the account number I submitted was that on the account. I decided to cancel the port request with voip.ms, as I've had issues with LNP ports in the past. I re-submitted the request to Twilio, with the same information. Within a few hours after the request, the port status was moved to pending with a port date of 12/28. Could someone explain what goes on behind the scenes with LNP? Why could Twilio port in a number in a couple of hours, while voip.ms was unable to do so?

[Other] Google Voice through GVGW problems

$

In the last couple of days I kept getting "dead air" on calls placed through Obi-> GVGW->GV Obi stats are squeaky-clean (no drops, low latency, no packet drop or interpolation), no reports of issues from Simon and of course nothing available on the Google side. I don't even know how to start troubleshooting this...yesterday 3 dead calls (one after 58 min, one after 20, the last after 15) and today in 14 minutes...so there isn't even a pattern. Calls were placed to either 1800 number or US and Canada ones. Since the call isn't dropped per se, no cause available in Obi. Obi rebooted, router has QoS (nothing changed in the last year) and was rebooted together with the cable modem. Help?

[CallCentric] Transfer a call on an IP phone

I was trying to transfer a call to another subaccount (extension) on my Polycom 331 phone and it would not work. According to this post (https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29638803-) the IP phone uses the SIP REFER method to perform this action, but Callcentric does not support the REFER command. Kind of hard to believe that I can't transfer from one extension on Callcentric to another with an IP phone. I don't think the Polycom IP phone can be configured to "bridge" the calls, which would be a pretty crappy solution anyway.

Looking for VoIP Provider or Carrier with Slamming Protection

Hello. Twice this month, a DID that I recently ported-in to CallCentric has been slammed. Still waiting to recover it from the latest slamming. The DID in question is used as a dedicated fax No. Porting it to one of the fax services that are notorious for their egregious trade practices (including a prohibition on porting-out once a DID ports-in) would take care of the problem. However, it would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I set up the problem DID for the express purpose of escaping eFax. Are there any VoIP providers or carriers that will protect DIDs against slamming? I know that Google Voice does, but GV would not be an option. Thank you.

[Voip.ms] VOIP.MS Toll Free Value Routing?

Is toll free value routing still available with voip.ms? It seems only premium is now available on my account? When did voip.ms make this change? Thanks.

Is there a way to disable SMS? I'm getting SMS incoming charges which I was totally not aware of until recently. makes no sense when my line doesn't support SMS and they're still charging me money.

[Other] [Security] Best security VOIP Provider for TLS, SRTP, and ZRTP

I am looking for a VOIP provider that supports TLS, SRTP and ZRTP. I want to use Zoiper, but I have other softphones that support these protocols as well. I am based in the central United States and most of our calling is regional. Also, I would like to use these protocols via a SIP to SIP methodology - without any DID numbers (if that is possible). Is there one 'secure' VOIP provider - that supports ALL these security protocols? Is there any 'secure' VOIP provider - that supports ANY of these security protocols?

Personal Request for Nancy Phillips

I don't know if anyone remembers https://www.dslreports.com/profile/1020316 in this forum? I was good friends with him both inside\outside of cyberspace. His wife asked me if I could record his OGM for gift and prosperity. I have an app for my phone but the quality is crap. I'm hoping he has some buddies on here that have a more professional solution aka phone tap with software to clean up the audio? If anyone has a little free time and would like to stab at this for me on behalf of his staff please PM me. Thanks :)

Viatalk the only VoIP provider that blocks invalid numbers?

$

I was thinking of leaving ViaTalk and switching to Ooma or Vonage but I think I'll stay put since none of these other providers allow the blocking of invalid phone numbers. Why isn't this a common feature with all VoIP providers? For those that don't know, invalid numbers come up as "12345" or something like "305-112-1111". If you try to manually enter those numbers as needing blocked, your VoIP dashboard will complain that you can't enter those numbers as blocks because they aren't valid. Can anyone recommend a VoIP (other than Viatalk :) ) that allows this? If not, guess I'll stick with VT.

I'm planning to port my number to GV and sign up for another carrier that will come with a new #. Will it be seamless or will there be some growing pains with using my GV exclusively?

FreePBX for the Raspberry Pi

The included script (install) and archive (install.tar.gz) will build FreePBX 2.11, 12, or 13 plus Asterisk 11, 12, 13, or 14 on a Raspberry Pi. iptables, dnsmasq, exim4, and pygooglevoice are also installed. Installation takes a little over an hour to complete on a Raspberry Pi 3. Download the latest Raspbian image. For FreePBX 12 or 13, Debian Jessie Lite is recommended: https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian_lite_latest For FreePBX 2.11, Debian Wheezy is required: https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/images/raspbian-2015-05-07/2015-05-05-raspbian-wheezy.zip Write the image to an 8 GB or larger SD card. To accomplish this, I recommend imageUSB: http://osforensics.com/downloads/imageusb.zip Prior to ejecting the SD card, create an empty file named ssh in the /boot/ directory (type NUL > ssh). Connect the Raspberry Pi to your LAN using an Ethernet cable. Insert the SD card and power up the Raspberry Pi. Copy install and install.tar.gz to the /home/pi directory. To accomplish this, I recommend WinSCP: https://winscp.net/eng/download.php Using an SSH client, log in using pi:raspberry. To accomplish this, I recommend PuTTY: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html Make the install script executable: $ chmod +x install Run the install script: $ sudo ./install When prompted: Set root password Select time zone (in US, use America, not US) Select FreePBX version Select Asterisk version Answer Edge option (FreePBX 13 only) Answer IPv6 option (No recommeded) Review selections Expand Filesystem (Item 1) Boot Options (Item 3 / B1 / B1) Localisation Options (Item 4 / I1) Advanced Options (Item 9 / A2 / Hostname: FreePBX) Finish / Reboot Now: No The Raspberry Pi will reboot. Log in as root. If desired, enable PuTTY logging when prompted. The system will be updated and then reboot. Log in as root. If desired, enable PuTTY logging when prompted. Confirm install. Installation will proceed unattended and then reboot. Log in a root. Installation is complete. Usually I wouldn't backtrack my steps but this case totally deserves it ! I just wanted to updated my first post and say that I'm shocked with support that Tim D. from Voipo offers ! I sent him an email and the problem got sorted out ... ( They made exception for me and enabled BYOD ) I appreciate this! Everything got resolved ultra fast ... I'm blown away by this heroic support .. ( I deal daily with many SLA agreements and I wish that all companies had support like this ) Thank you!
