[General] GVJack App Stopped Working a Few Weeks Ago

$

Help!! I'm a registered user of the GVJack App (version 3) and have been using it for a few years with no problems until about 4 weeks ago. The app uses the RTC Browser and the auto login with Google fails with the message "something went wrong". I can manually log on using the RTC browser but can't proceed - the app requires the auto login. I emailed PCphonesoft.com and have had no response. When I check for updates through the app it says I'm using the latest version. Any help would be appreciated.

CircleNet announcement

Hello DSLreports folk, I wanted to take a minute to give an update on CircleNet here first. We have decided that we will not be taking on any new customers, we will continue to take payments and provide service to existing customers until 1/1/2020. After that date we will keep our servers up and allow customers to spend down their balances until 1/1/2021. That should give two years notice. This isn't a decision we've come to lightly but at the moment we do not have the time to take care of ourselves and also to provide the level of service that I think our customers deserve. A formal announcement will go out tomorrow to our customers and I will help ANY customer facilitate a move to any other provider whenever they're ready. I doubt we'll provide voip services again in the future but I do hope to lurk around and see what becomes of this awesome forum. Sam

[Other] Porting Question (from Frontier POTS)

I'm helping an elderly person port a POTS number from Frontier POTS to a VoIP service. The port was accepted and has a 'Firm Order Commit' for one day this week. Once I confirm that the number ports, is there anything left to do with the 'old' Frontier account? Will it just 'close down'? I've never done this with a POTS line - the ports I've done with mobile/cell numbers - the old account just closed out (as long as there was no billing balance). Many thanks in advance!

number ported without authorization

I have a number that has been on voip.ms for the better part of a decade. Prior to that it was with vonage, and before that, it was originally a verizon/GTE landline. I don't get many incoming calls to it, but it's registered several places of importance. I noticed at one point that incoming calls weren't working even though outgoing calls were. I followed up with voip.ms and their support told me the number had been ported out several months prior. They've basically told me i'm out of luck... saying " Our carrier has confirmed us the number is not on their network and they're currently checking more information about what happened. As soon as we have a new update, " and later: "Since we're not a CLEC when a number ports out of our network we don't receive a notification unless the gaining carrier informs us. That's why I asked if the number was ported out or if is porting. Regarding the update from our carrier, they said the number ported out a year ago." I checked my call records and I definitely received calls on the number two months prior to noticing it quit working and bringing it to their attention. It hadn't been ported a year prior as they've said. I don't fully understand what happens 'behind the scenes' in number porting, so I'm not sure if a number can be easily 'stolen' or mistakenly transferred. I never authorized this number to be ported and no one else has access to this account to even get a copy of the bill to do so illegitimately. The number doesn't seem to be active currently. Voip.ms has been unwilling to go any further to help me resolve this... I've also tried porting the number to a new provider bug that's failed. Is there any recourse in a situation like this?

[Equipment] Google Voice : poor sound quality

I have been using GV with Tracfone Android phones, because of the convenience of being mobile. But I am getting a lot of complaints about sound quality and I no longer seem to be able to make calls from places with public wifi (like grocery store). I was going to switch to a system with an old fashioned handset. I looked at Amazon and I see an adapter to connect to analog phones, and an IP phone for a higher price. (1) Obihai OBi200 1-Port VoIP Adapter with Google Voice and Fax Support for Home and SOHO Phone Service, by Obihai List Price: $89.99 | Price: $49.88 (2) Obihai OBi1022 IP Phone with Power Supply - Up to 10 Lines - Support for Google Voice and SIP-Based Services by Obihai Price:$69.98 Would the IP Phone produce better sound quality?

[Voip.ms] Voip.ms Live Chat no longer working?

While logged into voip.ms during open hours I have been trying to bring up Live Chat to resolve an issue in FF and Chromium, but it is not starting anymore. I have used it several times in the past. Does anyone know if there is a problem? Could pi-hole be blocking a necessary server? I can't think of anything else. Thanks for your ideas.

[Asterisk] TLS not working with Asterisk 16.1 / Flowroute

I recently tried setting up TLS again with Flowroute for outbound calls only. They say they support tls but not srtp. It turned out to be very simple to set up [or so I thought] since I wasn't using srtp. It looked like everything was working, then I discovered calls were being dropped. I thought it was related to session timers but the error I am getting in the logs says "No matching cipher found". Calls work fine if I revert to UDP. I'm wondering if the issue is related to Flowroute's implementation of tls or a bug in Asterisk but I haven't received a response from either. I was considering switching all of my outbound to Flowroute because they have tls but now wondering if there is any advantage.

Is this some new form of SIP hack attempt?

Saw this in my Asterisk CLI: [2020-02-05 19:07:32] ERROR[12304]: pjproject: : sip_transport. Error processing 79 bytes packet from UDP 223.155.36.92:17426 : PJSIP syntax error exception when parsing 'Request Line' header on line 1 col 7: (some random characters here that looked like they may have been some kind of executable) -- end of packet. For now I have blocked the entire 223.0.0.0/8 subnet but this is something new I have not seen before, and nothing I am aware of should be connecting from anywhere in that subnet.

[VOIPo.COM] PBX Unreliable

For starters, I'm a big fan of VOIPo, even after all of their recent troubles. However, I have a real problem with their PBX service. They do not aggressively support it. We're still having problems, so I have no choice but to look elsewhere. They may or may not respond to a support ticket. What company would you suggest as an alternate provider that has similar features to the VOIPo PBX packages?

Helping me test my new VoIP Security product...

Hi All, I've had a lot of experience with VoIP over the years and during my time working at a large VoIP provider I saw a lot of fraud passing through all manner of PBX systems and hitting our network (asterisk, freepbx, 3cx, etc)... Usually when we contacted the customer and let them know they had unusual calls attempting to terminate with us, they were very surprised. Although we blocked the calls most of the time, often a secondary/backup provider would then pass the calls through, costing them thousands in fraudulent calling. So, for the last 12 months or so, i've been making a cloud based solution to help tackle the problem for people / companies. The idea is it sits between your PBX and the provider and watches for bad traffic. It doesn't actually take the calls though or need you to pass calls through it. It's now time for me to suck it up and ask what people think and if they could give it a go on their systems for me, which is why i'm here. So, if anyone has some spare time and is happy to give me some constructive feedback i'd really appreciate it. The website is: https://www.pbxshield.com Feel free reply to this post or PM me. :) Thanks! Chris.

[Voip.ms] Still waiting for promised MMS service at VOIP.MS

Regarding Bandwidth.com MMS on VOIP.MS's DID, I posted this on July 7, 2019: www.dslreports.com/forum/r32441498-Voip-ms-MMS-on-VOIP-MS-s-Bandwidth-DIDs ...and user Steve VoIPms replied in that thread on July 9, 2019: "Well we have good news for you, it's on our schedule already and will be implemented pretty soon. We had to push it back a few weeks due to other more important releases." Five months later, nothing. I'm in the beta program, so I think that I'd know if they had rolled it out for testing. (In general, VOIP.MS's public announcements about timelines for new features aren't reliable, and this announcement fits that pattern. I like the company, but they have some quirks, and this is one.) Has any of you heard further about when MMS might be implemented at VOIP.MS?

Can't say enough good things about Bulkvs.com...

I have been using bulkvs.com for VoIP 911 services for a couple of years. I've now expanded to use all their services. Wow! It's great. IP or registration authentication. Origination and Termination. Tech support is VERY fast in responding to issues -- usually resolved within an hour or less. I've ported a ton of DIDs to them -- painless process, very fast. $0.0055 TF Inbound rate -- lowest I can find, most are 1.5- - 1.9/c/min (Canada/USA) $0.0003 Inbound/$0.004 outbound prices for regular SIP traffic is among the lowest I've found with the low MRN. No MINIMUMS! They pay you if you route outbound TF traffic through them. I am just a customer and a fan. YMMV. Check em out. UDP Timeouts for VOIP in ddwrt

$

The goal is to implement the following hard-learned equation to avoid VOIP issues or re-registration problems after power failures: UDP Unreplied Timeout (in your router) < SIP OPTIONS Keep Alive Interval (in your ATA; for Obihai ATAs this is X_KeepAliveExpires) < UDP Assured Timeout (in your router) < SIP Registration Failure Retry Wait Time:(or RegisterRetryInterval in Obihai ATAs) In the ddwrt GUI, under Administration -> Management -> IP Filter Settings, there is UDP Timeout (default 120). This value corresponds to /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout . Also, there is /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout_stream for which I have not found a setting in the GUI. Which ddwrt parameter corresponds to UDP Unreplied Timeout and which to UDP Assured Timeout? How can they be verified? For much more information, see the thread at https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=322974 and the discussion following the post here: http://forum.fongo.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=19740&p=77127#p77113

Be sure to read the original post AND xrobau's responses https://community.freepbx.org/t/advanced-notice-to-the-community-regarding-clearly-ip-modules/64510 I have never cared much for Sangoma but this action places my opinion of them at a new low.

Puzzled over VoIP.com site

Happened to see this: The VoIP.com Domain Name Is For Sale Hilco Streambank, a market leading advisory firm specializing in the sale of intellectual property assets and domain name brokerage, is marketing for sale the VoIP.com premium domain name. VoIP.com, first registered in 1997, has historically been used to advertise and sell the use of Voice over Internet Protocol services, labeling it as the "Future of Telephony." https://finance.yahoo.com/news/voip-com-domain-name-sale-214700314.html Mmmph. 1) If the domain name is for sale, then generally the current owner doesn't need it anymore. 2) The current WhoIs registration lists the owner as PhonePower. 3) The VoIP.com website further indicates that their Business VoIP product is powered by Broadvoice, and Broadvoice was acquired by Phone Power a few years ago. 4) In fact, VoIP.com itself used to be a separate provider which was acquired by PhonePower around the same time as Broadvoice. ----- Anyway I wonder if the attempted sale of the domain name VoIP.com is just housecleaning by PhonePower, or if it portends any other changes. As well, maybe one of the other VoIP companies would like to take them up on the sale offer.

A local company downsized and I'm the lucky recipient of numerous free Mitel 5340e phones. ______________________________ UPDATE I got into the web interface, and the SIP configuration sucks big time. I'm not even going to attempt to deal with this abomination. I have a boatload of these puppies and they are free to anyone who sends a pre-paid UPS label. I'lll box and ship them with pleasure. Otherwise, they go to a recycling center.

[Equipment] Hook OBi up to phone jacks

Hello, I am a lurker who decides to finally post. I’ve recently gone to OBi as a way to get landline service at home (in addition to cell service). I would like to plug the OBi directly into a phone jack which, from what I’ve read, would then activate a dial tone on all jacks, provided there is no POTS connection coming into the house. I went outside to check for the demarc box/NID (still not quite sure about the difference) and found the small box in the attached photos. There is a larger box that is bolted shut in my basement directly under where that box is located. My question is: since it appears that there is no connection in that outside box, does that mean that the POTS service has been cut and I am safe to plug in the OBi? Or should I open up the box in my basement (from which the Internet cables emerge to connect to my modem/router)? When I plug a phone into the jack there is no dial tone, only a sound sort of like a soft wind blowing. Sorry in advance for the noobness.

ObiHAI Obi100/Obi110 Firmware Mod Discussion

$

So many of us have the Obi1xx series devices that recently stopped connecting to google servers due to a certificate update. This thread is intended to discuss the possibility of modifying the firmware to update the certificate and let these devices work with Google Voice again. These devices are based on a MIPS-X processor similar to the Sipura ATAs and there is not a lot of tools/docs out there about them except for a Yahoo Group mostly related to DVD player chipsets. The venerable DogFace05 who was an expert with these types of devices once posted that he was able to extract this firmware sucessfully. Not sure if he is still around. Anyone else familiar with this architecture? It seems that the place to start looking is the end of the firmware update file which contains some kind of table. Then there seems to be a loader section which presumably decompresses one or more other sections and loads them to RAM before executing the firmware. So the questions are: Can we extract, modify, and repack the firmware and create proper checksums/signatures? Where is the certificate stored and in what format? Can we drop in a new certificate without messing up other things (e.g. if the length of the certificate has changed) or do we need to move the certificate and patch the code pointing to it? Is updating the certificate enough or is the codebase missing support that is necessary (e.g. if key length has changed)? Anyone who wants to participate please post your thoughts. Thanks

FreePBX modifies "Key Revocation" section of Module Signing page

$

The FreePBX Module Signing (Integrity validation) wiki page was modified yesterday and the section on Key Revocation for FreePBX modules has been changed in a way that could impact third-party module developers. I'm going to quote the entire section so nobody can accuse me of quoting it out of context: Key Revocation FreePBX has the ability to revoke your keys signature. If your keys signature is revoked, all modules signed by that key will be disabled and will not be able to be used. We hope to never have to use this, but it's there to be able to block a module with a significant security vulnerability. We believe that this will be rarely used, if ever, but some of the reasons that it may be used could be (but aren't limited to) Your key is compromised Your key signed a malicious module Your key signed a module with a security vulnerability that is being actively attacked and you're not responding to the issue You have developed and/or are utlizing a module with FreePBX for which you are directly or indirectly generating revenue or commercial advantage and you have not entered into a commercial agreement with Sangoma that protects its commercial interests and its intellectual property .. for any other reason we deem at the time. That is, of course, a non-exhaustive list, but we're trying to abide by the Don't-Be-Evil mantra, and I would expect that we would always err on the side of caution. Saying that, as signing a new key is a trivial exercise, if a key is revoked for whatever reason, unless the owner of the key is actively being evil, we would probably work with the key owner to get their modules re-signed with their new key. Emphasis added. So basically what they are saying on one hand is that they hope they never have to revoke your keys, on the other hand they can for any reason at all, but particularly if you are generating revenue via your module and have not signed an agreement with Sangoma. My guess is that such an agreement just might involve Sangoma getting a cut of whatever you rake in from such a module. Note that this should not directly affect free modules offered at no cost unless perhaps someone is using them as a way to attract people to their web site which carries advertising, or that in some other way generates income for them. So if you see a sensationalist article on another site that makes it sound like this is somehow evil, I just wanted to emphasize that it does not appear to affect free third-party modules that are freely offered on sites that are not primarily income-generating. It is a little strange that this language was added but I won't speculate on the possible reasons why. Anyway I'm a big believer in reading things in context, rather than just selective quotes that are cherry picked to make things seem evil that really aren't. It's a good principle to apply in many life situations, although there are an awful lot of people who really wish you wouldn't develop that habit. ;)
