I have a Callcentric line I use with X-Lite desktop software. I'm looking for a cheap preferably free recording software to record my calls when required. I'm disabled so I use a headset into a USB port on my laptop. Sure there are some out there but I have been able to find idiot I really like yet. I'm presently using TRx phone recorder that I find it's quite cumbersome.

[Anveo] any way to disallow outgoing calls based on time of day?

Can anyone help?

Where is this an actual phone number: 351232102027
Today at my office I got 17 blocked call attempts from 6 different numbers up until about 5 pm. So it's a quiet day (my phones don't ring when the spammers are blocked). Then a call came in - lasted all of about 8 seconds before they baled on the call - left no trace in my phone system (ie did not dial 0 or any extension) which is typical of practically all garbage calls that get through my list of about 225 call-filter rules.
Here are the last few call attempts (that got blocked) and the time they happened:
2019-02-18 17:07:44 "V21817074300040" 5878012841
2019-02-18 17:07:47 "V21817074300040" 5878012841
2019-02-18 17:07:49 "V21817074300040" 5878012841
2019-02-18 17:07:50 "V21817074300040" 5878012841
2019-02-18 17:07:56 "V21817074300040" 5878012841
2019-02-18 17:07:59 "5878012841" 5878012841
I'm not paying for CNAM lookup so that is what voip.ms passes to me.
I'm showing the actual phone number - which I think is OK here because if you dial it, you get the message "the number you have dialed is not in service" so I'm thinking it's ok to post it. That number shows up on sites like 800notes and other spam-forums. The caller-ID string (the thing starting with V218) is not revealing of anything identifiable as far as I know. I'm blocking the entire 587 area code - have been for about a month now when garbage calls started from that area code.
Anyways, note the 6 attempts within 15 seconds, and the last attempt where the caller ID string was changed. Now up to this point, this is not unusual. But just 2 seconds later, this call comes in:
2019-02-18 17:08:01 "351232102027" 351232102027
I don't have an NPAN filter rule for this DID because we can get international calls (rare but they do happen).
Again I'm posting the entire number because, well, for one thing it's not an NPAN number format. It's got 12 digits. The number doesn't start with 01 or +011 or some such, so I have no clue if it's supposed to be an international number. Because it happened 2 seconds after the run of blocked attempts from the 587 number I'm thinking it's coming from the same bunch of Klowns. Anyways, I'm going to now be blocking 35XXXXXXXXXX (35 plus any 10 digit sequence) so I'm asking here just what international location (if any) would I be blocking...?

[General] Seeking Cheap Phone Service (VOIP?). Must show in LRN as LANDLINE
Not sure if this is even possible....
Hello, I am a business owner and looking for a cheaper option than my current AT&T "landline" phone service. The catch is that I am licensed in the state of Georgia as a used motor vehicle dealer and this license requires the business to maintain a landline telephone. This is enforced, checked, and verified by a local inspector who visits your office as well as by the Georgia department of revenue (DOR).
In Georgia, dealers get their "dealer" license plates from the DOR. I don't know the details but I do know that before issuing and when renewing the plate registration, the DOR checks a computer system (assuming a website) to make sure my business number validates as a landline. The friendly DOR service agents would not tell me anything about this process.
I do know that my current number validates as a landline at validito.com and phonevalidator.com.
So my question - can anyone recommend a VOIP service or really any cheaper option than my current AT&T service ($60 per month) and be CERTAIN that the new service will validate as a LANDLINE?
I am hesitant to change because I'd hate to get my license suspended over a phone number just to save $30 a month. However, it burns me that I am forced into old-school, ineffective, and expensive options that I literally never use because of out-dated (at best) or misguided (likely) legislation.
Thanks for any help/suggestions :)

VOIP call quality w/ encryption or VPN and/or over mobile network
I am uncertain/ having difficulty in finding providers that can give me good call quality with a high frequency. I am also unsure as to the process that I should go through in finding such providers. I am in the US.
Here is what I want:
1- no privacy infraction committing big tech companies
2- VOIP provider for $15 or less per month for 3 phone numbers. I don't need E911 service.
3- SMS on all numbers. Phone number 3 will be a throwaway number (I will need to change it every couple of months or so).
4- Encryption. I prefer VPN (budget is $5/mo for a respectable VPN). Also open to having the VOIP company handle the encryption but I then need a way to bypass my VPN in Linux and Windows and use VOIP encryption instead. I do not want to have to disconnect my VPN to make calls. Reason for encryption is to keep the data away from my ISP.
5- I want the VOIP company to delete the metadata logs after a reasonable amount of time (1year maybe?). Has reasonable privacy protections (doesn't give other companies access to my data).
6- puts the calls through mobile network
7- privacy respecting soft phone for Windows and Linux
I am not sure how to cost/ time effectively test providers. I pinged localphone.com server, saw atrocious ping times but then they said that that doesn't matter because they establish a direct connection for the 2 sides of the call and then their server is basically not involved.
For some providers, though, I guess connecting to the VPN and pinging servers can work?

[General] VoIP providers and IPv6
Ok,
So I did go back a few pages and look but did not see anything on this. Googling I found a thread from back in 2017, but that was about it.
So have any providers implemented IPv6 with their service? Given that it would eliminate NAT issues, and other supposed benefits, it is something to start asking for, in my opinion.

Obihai OBi200/202/302 + OBi1022/1032/1062 + OBi50x firmware mods
So I want to add the ability to configure these devices for GV using oauth without obitalk, similar to the changes for the obi100 (and add an ssh server, for grins).
I think I have the MD5s in the firmware file worked out (its the same "Goodbye! Reboot Now" garbage as the 100), and I see where the oauth refresh token code is, so it should be pretty straightforward unless there is code signing that I missed.
The only hiccup is... I don't actually have an OBi20x :-(
Anyone have one of these devices that wants to be a guinea pig? You should definitely have a way to SPI the flash back *when* i brick the thing the first couple tries...
[or if someone has one sitting in the closet, you could just send it to me. ill name the fw after you :-)]
EDIT: speaking of flash, its supposed to have a w25x128 on board, but is it the SOIC package or some BGA madness?
QUICK SUMMARY:
Custom firmware made for all obi devices, thanks to the help of generous hardware donations and bold testers.

[General] Are HD Voice Codecs ever coming to VOIP interconnects?
It's been well over a decade now yet no voip interconnects seem to support any HD voice codecs. Cellular calls via codecs like EVS and now between carriers sound x times clearer than traditional voip/pots.
Even when calling internationally, I now use facetime voice or skype, which again sounds x times clearer than any standard voip service.

[CallCentric] SPAM scoring using CNAM data
My service provider, CallCentric, provides a combination of tools that do a relatively good job of helping to contain telemarketers. TrueCNAM is one of the tools utilized.
However, notwithstanding unpredictable spoofed number calls outside of my local calling area, the overwhelming majority of the telemarketing calls that do get through generally fall into one of two categories; A) The CNAM data displays a US City/State or B) the word UNAVAILABLE is included in the CNAM data. Both of these calls appear to get a TrueSpam score that places it in the "Low" probability category.
As a result, I have asked TrueCNAM and CallCentric if it would be efficient and feasible to parse the CNAM field to look for one of 50+ State/Territory suffixes and the word UNAVAILABLE to be considered in the TrueSpam score and/or other scoring algorithms utilized by CallCentric.
Thoughts? Feedback? Thanks.

CNAM lookups on not-in-service numbers: Why not "Not in Service"?
I assume that CNAM lookups on not-in-service numbers don't currently return anything useful, like "Not in Service" or "invalid number"?. So why don't they? Can they?
I've been seeing an uptick lately on getting calls from my area-code+nearby-exchange that turn out to be not-in-service numbers, and these seem to happen after a run of 3 to 10 blocked attempts from well-known fraud/scam CID's. These not-in-service calls last only a second or two and seem to be designed to check and see if my number is indeed active.

[General] Wiring ( total Noob)
I am seriously considering VOIP from my current ISP. I'm wondering if I can drop a line from their supplied adapter to the phone junction box inside the house and then have all the phone jacks work. I realize I need to disconnect the feed from the Phone Co. to the junction box first. Be nice, I'm clueless as to VOIP requirements.

[Unlock] Unlocking the BasicTalk ATA
Important NOTE: a better unlocking method has been posted later in this thread. Please see this post for a permanent unlock developed by uid://1479488. My soft unlock may help in some cases if the ATA has "called home".
I have some good news for those of you looking for an inexpensive ATA.
I've just got my hands yesterday on a couple of BasicTalk ATAs (I've had my eyes on them for a few months but I live in Canada and don't go to US that often) and I put together a small tutorial for unlocking them.
The ATA is a Grandstream HT701 with a customized firmware.
I posted it on my website at http://voipfan.net/unlock/ht701bt.php
I will leave the access open to everyone for a couple months then make it available to registered users (like my other unlocking tutorials).
Enjoy and if you run into any trouble please post here.

Gigaset S675IP Handset Replacement
We have a Gigaset S675IP and are currently on our second handset, but it's failing. The ringing rarely works, and there is 'static' from it often.
These phone are easily available in Europe, but to my understanding, the frequencies are different. At least to me, finding a replacement handset in Canada is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
What are the options for a replacement in North America? Where are they available? Obviously, a durable handset would be appreciated. I have used the A580IP handset in Europe, and even though it's a more basic model, it seems more durable. What are the current models, and where are they available?
Are there any non-Gigaset handsets that would give even basic functionality? I haven't been able to find any DECT6.0 handsets that specify 'GAP' in North America.
I'm considering going back to an old POTS analog cordless with ATA for now. Is the Obi200 a good choice for an ATA nowadays? I've read some reviews that spoke of poor design, build, and reliability, as compared to say the 100 series. Is it really an issue?
