My 3 yo Obi202 has bit the big one. It will not boot. I've tried a number of things including various power adapters, and putting it in the fridge! I opened it and looked for bad solder joints and bulging caps, but saw nothing obvious.
This is in a hope situation with no fancy needs. I like the built-in router with QoS, and also the ability to call out on one service (Localphone) while using a different one (Anveo) for inbound -- totally "invisibly" after configuring the dial plan. I don't use GoogleVoice and don't anticipate doing so. Two phone ports are nice, but not really required if I can have 4 phones on one port.
A new Obi202 is the strongest possibility (although I'm really disappointed in the reliability). Here are my questions:
1. Can I configure a new one locally without using ObiTalk, as I did the old one. I have a backup of my configuration that hopefully I would like to just load and go. Or would I be forced to use ObiTalk?
2. I've heard about the new $10/yr "maintenance fee" that Obi has tried to institute. Can I avoid that if I don't use GV?
3. Another possibility I saw on Amazon is the SPA 122. It's half the price and has a built in router. I know little about it. Would it work for me? Any downsides for the scenario I described?
TIA for your help and advice.
