Has anyone ever implemented the PA-1? I just ordered one. It was about $115.
We want to use a spare line appearance on our phones that will automatically signal the PA-1, when selected, for loudspeaker paging over an existing Valcom V-1036C amplified horn speaker. The Valcom was left over from an earlier analog key system where it worked great in a shop area.
Here's my setup.
I have 4 Yealink 6-line SIP phones. 2 lines are in use with Vonage. Not my choice, but that's what we have.
Vonage will support us implementing the PA-1, but requires us to pay them for an unlimited extension with monthly fees to make it work. No thanks bloodsuckers.
I was thinking of introducing a dedicated SIP/PBX just for the paging system, but that's probably overkill.
Here are the choices I think I have.
1. Run a SIP/PBX server on an existing Windows 10 installation (native or Virtual Machine).
2. Implement a low end device, like a Raspberry Pi, with whatever the latest free software Ward Mundy is offering these days.
3. Use a free SIP URL service like SIP2SIP or ONSIP.
As I see it, I need four SIP registrations for the phones and one for the PA-1.
I'd like to avoid having to setup new hardware, and of course free would be great.
Any comments or suggestions on these approaches would be appreciated.
I used to hang out here years ago and then I bought a Panasonic SIP phone system and life became much easier.
Thanks in advance.
