VOIP, buffer bloat, Edgerouters'n'more...

Hi peoples, havent posted in awhile because life got in the way. Finally playing catchup now in the summer to fix long running tech annoyances. :) So originally like a year ago I bought an EdgeRouter X on the recommendations of people here I believe, and an Obitalk 2xx (I forget which model but it has two phone jacks, plus an additional LAN out port in the back), i'd actually been using Google Voice longer than that just on the computer alone with no problems.. but didn't get the hardware set up right away because it wasn't a priority. (I also had some issues, plugged in the EdgeRouter and I couldn't browse thru it, was confused how to set it up, etc etc/not plug and play anyways... or wasnt for me) The only other relevant hardware right off the cable line isa Netlink WNDR3400v2 N600 wireless router - which I hate by the way (because I cant use the wifi/gives me horrific headaches if i'm in the same room within 5 minutes), and which previously gave me problems with what I assume was buffer bloat when I was running 100mbps down/10mbps up on heavy torrenting because even webpages would hang and such. ANYWAY I got the Obitalk hooked up more recently, nothing but happy with it so far at my crappy little gutter provider Google Voice at $0/month. So at the moment I was running a test on my 25mbps down/3mbps up I think internet, loaded a couple of torrents, and had that running while Steam was downloading at 3.1MB/second to start, then loading two youtube videos, and tried making a call... expecting the voice to cut out and such, but I had absolutely no problems so far. So I guess what i'm wondering is, 1) does anyone think my original network setup would have been fine at 25mbps without anything? 2) is the port in the Obitalk like it's own buffer-bloat correcting/VOIP "priority port" type of arrangement to prevent dropouts? (which i'm not even using, the obitalk is hanging off the main router) 3) did I even really need the Edgerouter X that I got at 25mbps speeds? I accept that when I ramp speed back up to 100mbps in the future i'm likely to have more need for it then, i'm just wondering right now. I'm also wondering can someone suggest test software which, if anything will, will force a 'buffer bloat' condition or/and let me test for it (to see if my current system is bottlenecking or not, and to figure out when it does) or/and to see when it starts to affect the VOIP? I'm not doing any high priority calls right now, I just plan to use the system more heavily in the future... want to be able to maximize the use of my connection (whether i'm at 25, 50, or 100 speed upgrades in the future) and know that it wont mess with the voip phone, or bandwidth/ping time gaming on the xbox and similar. :)
