FreePBX: 14.0.1.19
Asterisk: 13.17.0
I managed to install FreePBX onto a Raspberry Pi running on my local network and after some trial and error I managed to make my first call. I was impressed with the way everything works and so decided to try setting it up on a VPS.
I have a few VPS's with a company called BuyVM and am very happy with their service so I decided to fire up a new box with them as they already had a FreePBX ISO. Once again, setup was very smooth (I am a Windows software developer, so I'm not used to smooth). Working with Linux was my biggest concern, so with that out of the way I can now focus on learning FreePBX.
The whole Chan Sip / PJSIP thing is a bit strange but that's one for later on. The first thing I need to understand is how to get remote extensions making outbound calls. I have a Cisco SPA112 registering OK but I receive a 'circuits are busy' message when attempting to make a call. I have researched this on Google and understand that there are many possible causes.
My requirements are very simple and all I want to do for now is make toll free calls via Start Communications. First thing I did was setup an Outbound route and added X. as my only pattern. I then setup a trunk and copied over the default settings that were auto installed on my Rasp Pi...
type=peer
qualify=no
insecure=very
host=switch.starcompartners.com
port=5060
I thought that would be all I needed to do in order to make calls and indeed that's how I have things setup on my Rasp Pi - which works fine. So, I'm guessing that there are one or more settings somewhere else that are preventing me from making calls via FreePBX on my VPS.
Firewall is disabled for now as I am working from a dynamic IP address and don't want to lock myself out of the web management interface.
Fail2Ban auto installed on the VPS (it didn't on my Rasp Pi) and I have no idea how to manage that.
I was just about to show you the call event log for the two failed calls I made and it looks like an intruder has found the PBX already and has been attempting to make calls - WOW!!!
Later...
