I'm puzzled at the long delayed arrival of ubiquitous
MMS in the world of VOIP. I've been looking forward
to it for a long time.
I care most about Vitelity and VOIP.MS (my providers),
but I'd be willing to move my service to another vaguely
similar VOIP provider just to get MMS (at a reasonable
cost).
I called Vitelity today for an update on MMS. I asked
whether they have any idea why MMS is so slow to arrive
to the VOIP universe, and they said that MMS is
controlled by a small number of companies that restrict
the availability of MMS. I hadn't heard this. When I google
this topic, I come up empty. Does any of you have insight
into this claimed restriction on MMS availability? Could you
direct us to relevant web content?
(Twilio, which sells quite an array of products, does have
MMS, and I used their web interface to send and receive
test MMS's. But their products are intended for use with
apps, and the web interface is wildly inconvenient, mainly
because any MMS content must first be put on the web
and then identified for Twilio by its URL. Also, their web
interface can't notify the user of new messages. I've
looked around for an app that could perform Twilio MMS
for me, but I found none. If you know of one, please
mention it here.)
