[Voip.ms] Just opened a new account, Manual Validation Required

I just created an account with voip.ms. I'm getting the dreaded "The system has set your account on mode "Manual Validation Required". Please contact our staff by Live Chat or Email to have your account activated." message when I try to do anything in the account portal. :( Some quick research indicates that voip.ms will want a scan of my driver's license before they'll finish setting up my account?? Is this pretty standard nowadays with just about every new voip.ms account? I'm not using a VPN, just my desktop PC running Linux Mint over a Charter Spectrum connection here in the good ol' USA. About the only thing that I can think of that may have been suspect to them is that my first password didn't meet their complexity requirements and I had to reenter it. I'm also using a Yahoo email address... would that be suspicious to them? What info can I black out on my driver's license scan to be acceptable to voip.ms? I'm just looking to use voip.ms for outgoing calls only since they're less expensive than Callcentric and just (almost?) as good as Callcentric.
